Zubštejn Castle Ruins

The most dominant ruins in Bystřice region

The vast Zubštejn castle ruins can be found approximately 688 metres above the sea level, on the conspicuous mountain ridge between the villages of Pivonice and Kobylnice. The original name of the castle was Kámen (Rock in English, Stein in German, Lapis in Latin), and later was known as Zubří kámen (Bison Rock), shortened to the Czech-German name Zubrštejn.

Thanks to its history and the fact that the residential tower and several parts of the walls of this large castle have been preserved, it is considered to be one of the most significant medieval sights in the Bystřice region.
